Windsor's most-reviewed dentist ranks #1 in just three places
Madison Dental has about 1,168 Google reviews, the most of any Windsor practice we checked.
Search "dentist" from 119 spots across Windsor, LaSalle and Tecumseh, and it ranks #1 at exactly three of them.
Now meet Skyview Dental on Walker Road. About 110 reviews, roughly a tenth as many.
It ranks #1 at 17.
That's not a fluke. It's how Windsor works on Google Maps.
Five practices hold half of the #1 spots in the entire city. One shows up in the top 10 from more than half of Windsor. And the dentist closest to you usually isn't the one Google shows first.
For a Windsor dentist, that means two things. Your practice could reach much further than you think. And a practice across town may already be winning in your backyard.
Here's what 3,380 Google Maps results told us.
How we conducted the Windsor dental market study

One adjustment: Detroit
Windsor sits across the river from Detroit, so the northern and western edges of our grid fell in Michigan or on the water.
We excluded those 50 points from the analysis. That leaves 119 Canadian search locations, covering Windsor and parts of LaSalle and Tecumseh.
As a side note, Detroit dentists barely cross the border on Google Maps. At Canadian search locations, Michigan practices took none of the #1 positions and under 1% of top-three positions, all at points right along the river.
A study of market structure, not individual rankings
Any single Google ranking can change. Run the same search again and some positions will shift.
This study is about the shape of the market: how many practices can compete for the top spots, how far any one of them can reach, and how that changes across the city. Those patterns come from where practices are located and how established they are, and they change slowly.
What I mean by "competitive"
The same definition I've used in every study.
An area isn't competitive just because it has a lot of dental offices. I look at two things:
Search competition: how many different practices reach Google's strongest positions.
Competitor strength: how established those practices are, including how many reviews a patient sees beside your name.
For search competition, we analyzed overlapping 3 × 3 windows, nine neighbouring search points each, and counted the unique #1, top-three and top-10 practices. For competitor strength, we checked the current Google review count of the practices that reached the top three in the areas we profile.
Finding #1: Windsor vs. Toronto, side by side
Because we used the same grid and spacing in all three studies, we can compare them directly.
Same search, same grid | Mississauga | Etobicoke | Windsor |
|---|---|---|---|
Search locations analyzed | 151 | 49 | 119 |
Different #1 practices | 108 (72% of locations) | 40 (82%) | 37 (31%) |
Most #1 positions held by one practice | 9 | 3 | 17 |
Widest top-10 reach by one practice | 16% of locations | 39% | 57% |
Closest practice ranked #1 | 38% of locations | 45% | 21% |
Median distance to the #1 result | 0.75 km | 0.62 km | 2.28 km |
In Mississauga and Etobicoke, the #1 dentist was usually the one just down the street.
In Windsor, the median #1 result was more than 2 km away. At 42% of locations, it was more than 3 km away.
That's the core of this study:
In dense Toronto markets, Google mostly shows you who's nearby. In Windsor, Google is willing to send you much further, to the practices it considers strongest.
That's both an opportunity and a warning for every Windsor practice.
Finding #2: A handful of practices win most of Windsor
Across the 119 Canadian search locations, the practices holding the most #1 positions were:
Practice | #1 locations | Top-10 locations | Google reviews | Other practices within 2 km |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Skyview Dental (Walker Rd) | 17 | 42 | 110 | 3 |
Eye Smile Dental (Sandwich West Pkwy) | 13 | 41 | 386 | 1 |
LaSalle Family Dentistry (Front Rd) | 13 | 26 | 50 | 5 |
St. Clair Beach Dental Centre (Tecumseh) | 9 | 19 | 570 | 9 |
Eastside Dental (Enterprise Way) | 8 | 55 | 647 | 16 |
Review counts are a snapshot taken October 9, 2026. "Other practices within 2 km" counts Canadian practices that appeared in our data.
Those five practices held 60 of the 119 #1 positions.
Look at the last column. The three practices with the most #1 positions each have five or fewer competitors within 2 km. Skyview Dental has about 110 reviews; LaSalle Family Dentistry about 50. Neither is a review giant. But in a part of the city with almost no nearby alternatives, Google kept showing them first, often from kilometres away.
Finding #3: The biggest names reach almost everywhere, but rarely win
Now look at the practices with the widest reach:
Practice | Top-10 locations (of 119) | #1 locations | Google reviews | Other practices within 2 km |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Coscarella Family Dentistry (Grand Marais Rd W) | 68 (57%) | 3 | 833 | 8 |
Madison Dental (Tecumseh Rd E) | 64 (54%) | 3 | 1,168 | 32 |
Eastside Dental (Enterprise Way) | 55 (46%) | 8 | 647 | 16 |
Walkerville Dental (Ottawa St) | 54 (45%) | 1 | 567 | 30 |
Madison Dental, with about 1,168 reviews, the most of any Windsor practice we checked, appeared in the top 10 at more than half of all Canadian search locations, up to about 15 km from its office. That's despite more than 30 other practices within 2 km.
No practice in Mississauga or Etobicoke came close to that kind of reach.
But Madison ranked #1 at only three locations. Walkerville Dental ranked #1 at one.
So Windsor rewards two different things:
Being the only strong option nearby wins #1 positions.
Being one of the city's most established practices wins visibility across the whole city, even if someone closer usually takes first place.
Finding #4: Our centre practice faced the same squeeze as everywhere else
We centred the grid on Wonsch Dental on Dougall Avenue: a 5.0 rating and about 417 reviews.
From its own front door, it ranked #2. Advance Urgent Dental, about 350 metres away, took #1. Three more practices within about 400 metres filled #3 to #5.
Across the 119 locations, Wonsch Dental reached the top 10 at 4 and the top 20 at 15.
It sits in the Dougall and Howard corridor, the densest dental cluster in south-central Windsor, with 18 other practices within 2 km. The lesson matches what we saw in Mississauga and Etobicoke: inside a cluster, even a strong practice's footprint is small. What's different in Windsor is how big the footprint can be for practices outside the clusters.
Finding #5: Distance matters less in Windsor than anywhere we've measured
The closest practice to the search point ranked:
#1 at only 21% of locations
in the top three at 45%
Only 27% of #1 results were within 1 km of the searcher. In Etobicoke, it was 71%.
Part of that is simply density: our grid found about 159 Canadian dental practices, compared with 617 Google Business Profiles in the Mississauga grid and 925 in Etobicoke's. When there are fewer practices to choose from, Google is more willing to recommend one further away.
Google describes local ranking as relevance, distance and prominence, weighed together. In Windsor, prominence clearly carries more of the weight.
